Have you ever wondered what it would be like if Toontown’s skies were always dark? Have you ever wanted to see Sellbot HQ bathed in molten lava? Content Packs and their dedicated creators make all of those things possible and more!
Content Packs are ways for players to integrate a new look and feel into Toontown without affecting the gameplay of others around them. They work as a result of creators providing players an alternate set of files to put in their Toontown Rewritten folder. These files then become what the game uses to create the player’s experience. By altering and creating new textures, incorporating new music and sound effects, and crafting compelling visuals, creators design fresh versions of Toontown for players to enjoy and switch between.
Existing for almost as long as Toontown has, Content Packs have long been a medium for players to express themselves and create new Toontown experiences.
Toontown Rewritten doesn’t currently offer a marketplace or anything official to browse or install Content Packs, but one of our Content Pack creator partners, Ugly Corny, provides a website that hosts a variety of pre-approved Content Packs with various degrees of integration! It can be found at: https://toon.town/packs
Toontown Rewritten is not the owner nor responsible for the content posted or shared on the website, which is run by a third party.
Everything you need for a Content Pack is contained in one file with the .mf extension -- otherwise known as the Multifile file type! Make sure you know where your Toontown Rewrittten folder is, and create a new folder called resources:
Windows:
Usually is one of these two folders:
C:Program Files (x86)Toontown Rewritten
C:Program FilesToontown Rewritten
To get there, follow these steps:
Mac:
Usually is this folder:
~/Library/Application Support/Toontown Rewritten
To get there, follow these steps:
Linux:
If you're using the launcher downloaded from the website, the folder is the launcher binary’s directory.
If you're using the flatpak, it is this folder:
~/.var/app/xyz.xytime.Toontown/data/toontown-rewritten
To get to the directory when using the flatpak, follow these steps:
Once you’re in your resources folder, drop your Content Pack Multifile file into it, and you’re good to go!
Once you’ve installed a Content Pack, the next time you launch Toontown Rewritten, the new visuals/audio/fonts will be used immediately! Your installed Content Packs will be available in the Options Menu, under the Video Tab, under Content Packs.
At any time, you can navigate there and hover over a Content Pack to enable or disable it. You can also click, hold, and drag to change the order that the packs are loaded in, allowing you to prefer partial content packs to be loaded over full content packs, giving you a mixed and matched experience.
To install or delete a Content Pack, you’ll have to quit Toontown Rewritten and make changes to your resources folder before playing again. However, since you can disable content packs in-game, there is no need to remove Content Packs you don’t wish to use temporarily. While you can put as many Content Packs in the resources folder as you like, a large number has not been fully tested and may result in some game instability.
First, thanks for creating a Content Pack for Toontown Rewritten! This question assumes you know the basics of how to create a pack already.
To add an icon:
Create a power-of-two square icon (32x32, 64x64, etc.) of small size (we don’t recommend anything bigger than 128x128) that can represent your Content Pack, and name it pack.png -- PNG format, naturally! Save it at the root folder of your content pack, on the same level that phase folders reside at. When you create the multifile, just include the icon!
To configure other things:
Create a new text file and name it info.ini -- that’s the INI file type. Save it at the root folder of your content pack, on the same level that phase folders reside at.
To add a custom name and description, write:
[PackInfo]
name=Your Content Pack Name
description=Your Content Pack Description, but be brief!

To change the usage of “Small Caps” for some fonts, write something like the follow:
[SmallCaps]
# EXAMPLE: fontName=<yes or no>
aftershock=no
jiggerypokery=yes
When you create the multifile, just include this file!
