However, users of Vuze have been frustrated by the adware in the torrent client that pops up constantly asking them to install new tool bars or upgrade to Vuze Plus paid version. Vuze used to be a great torrent program, but now I would recommend you steer well clear of it and use Transmission. Vuze now tries to install malware/adware when you first download it or later when you go to upgrade it to the latest version. It is also riddled with ads in the attempt to get you to purchase Vuze Plus. Multi-platform BitTorrent client designed to help its users to search for and download content via a peer to peer transfer platform. Torrent files remain one of the fastest way to share large files with your friends over the internet. Vuze is a torrent client that provides support for end-to-end transfers between computers.

I'm getting a message saying the dmg is corrupt (or similar) on OSX 10.8 (Mountain Lion)[edit]

You will need to open your 'System Preferences' and go to 'Security & Privacy'. The 'General' tab has new gatekeeper settings. Change 'Allow applications to be downloaded from' to 'Anywhere' and try to install Vuze.

How do I fix 'Could not create this file' errors when running the installer in OSX ?[edit]

This is a file permissions problem, usually due to having a previous Vuze installation done via a different user account. You'll see a series of error popups when first launching the Mac installer:

/Applications/.install4j/inst_jre.cfgCould not create this file. Should I try again?

The simple (but temporary) solution is to re-run the dmg installer, but on the very first install screen you'll see a checkbox on the lower left to Customize. Check that and hit Next, and you'll be offered an option to change to an alternative install location. Change the installation path to your Desktop. After completing the installation, File > Exit out of the launched Vuze client, then drag and drop the Vuze icon from your Desktop to your Applications folder.

The better (permanent) fix however is to do the following:

(1) Select the Applications folder in the Finder, and use the Get Info (Command-I) command to open the Info window and then go to the Sharing and Permissions config section.

You'll need to click the lock at the lower right and enter your Admin password to make changes.

You should remove the Wheel permissions and use the + button to add Admin (User Groups - Administrators) Read & Write permissions line back.

(2) In the Finder, go to the Go menu and select 'Go to Folder...' and type:

/Applications/.install4j/

When the resulting window opens, delete all of the contents found there. You may even want to click and hold the icon next to '.install4j' in the window's titlebar until it selects and drag it to the Trash.

(2b) Another way of fixing the problem is to start the Terminal app and type:

at the command prompt and hit Enter. You'll be prompted for your Admin password.

After doing these steps, you should be able to re-run the installer again without errors.
